Tunes-N-Tint’s Award-Winning History

November 13, 2017 By Staff

Tunes-N-Tint-3 Tunes-N-Tint’s Award-Winning History If you are in the Lakeland, Florida, area, then you have undoubtedly heard of Tunes-N-Tint. Our mobile enhancement business has been serving Central Florida for years. We thought it would be interesting to give our clients some insight into the history of the company and outline some of the services we offer.

Location History

Tunes-N-Tint-2-300x130 Tunes-N-Tint’s Award-Winning History Tunes-N-Tint started as a mobile installation company in Tampa in 2000. After much initial success, we decided in 2001 that it was time to open a retail facility to provide our clients and staff with a way to experience our products and services before purchasing. We grew quickly and had to find a second location for increased storage.

The next step was to open a second location in Lakeland in 2007. The Lakeland store also grew quickly, resulting in opening a third location in central Lakeland in 2009, and then a South Lakeland location in 2011.

In 2012, we made a significant change. We spun off the Tampa location into a separate company, changed our name to Tunes-N-Tint and consolidated the Lakeland locations into our single state-of-the-art store at 4980 US Highway 98N.

With ample parking, well-equipped installation bays and a showroom that features modern interactive displays, our current location is well-known as one of the top automotive accessory and restyling centers in the area.

Staff Training and Certification

A business is nothing without its staff. We have employed more than 100 technicians over the years and they have all been certified by the Mobile Electronics Certified Professional (MECP) program – the only nationally recognized program of its kind in our industry. Currently, all of our technicians are both MECP-certified and have their Automotive Service Excellence (ASE ) A6 Electrical and Electronic Systems accreditation. Almost all of our team members, including management and sales staff, share this same training.

Over the years, we have been part of the MERA, ICE, ME, CEA (now CTA), IWFA and MESA professional organizations. We are active in various industry groups and regularly collaborate with other successful retailers to expand our knowledge and service offerings.

Products and Services

While our name tells our clients about our most popular services, we are indeed a one-stop-shop for most automotive accessory, styling and entertainment upgrade solutions. Our showroom is equipped with individual displays that highlight our core offerings.

Our services include:

  • Car Audio/Speakers
  • OE Integration
  • Subwoofers
  • Power Sports/Motorcycles
  • Marine Audio
  • Mobile Video
  • Window Tinting
  • Custom Vehicle Graphics
  • Truck Accessories
  • Lighting Upgrades
  • Accent and Accessory Lighting
  • Interior and Upholstery Upgrades
  • Aftermarket Wheels
  • Train Horns

Investment in Facility Equipment

To be able to work efficiently, we have invested a great deal of money in equipment for our store. We have an in-house CNC-controlled laser cutter and a 3D printer and scanning system. Our woodworking area is equipped with a large table saw, multiple router stations, a wide variety of router templates and a complete dust collection system.

Since we began tinting in 2001, we have used computerized cutting to ensure each piece of window film fits your vehicle perfectly. We were one of the first companies in Florida to use computerized cutting. We also have an interactive display that demonstrates the thermal properties of the different films we offer.

Our Brand Partners

While installation and fabrication equipment and skills are paramount to providing our clients with exceptional upgrade solutions, our product partners are equally important. We have chosen brands for their balance of performance, value and reliability. Some of our key partners are Rockford Fosgate, JL Audio, Kenwood, Kicker, Pioneer, Viper, 3M and Rhino Linings.

Industry and Peer Recognition

Tunes-N-Tint-1-219x300 Tunes-N-Tint’s Award-Winning History We have been chosen as one of the Top 50 retailers by Mobile Electronics magazine for 10 years. We have made the Top 12 many times, several of our team members have been on the Top 50 and Top 12 lists for installers, and member of our team was voted as Rookie of the Year by Mobile Electronics magazine in 2016. We also won the coveted Best Store Presentation award in 2015.

Our team and facility were recently featured in an issue of Mobile Electronics magazine with a group photo on the cover. We have received “The Recruiter” award from MESA and were one of the charter (first three) members of the Gold Group as well as the first member from Florida.

Factory Audio System Amplification Possible at Tunes-N-Tint

October 16, 2017 By Staff

Factory-Audio-System-Amplification-1 Factory Audio System Amplification Possible at Tunes-N-Tint When it comes to making your stereo sound better, Tunes-N-Tint in Lakeland has factory audio system amplification experts. Adding more power to the stereo that came with your car or truck will let you turn up the volume and reduce distortion. With a new amp in the system, new speakers and a subwoofer will bring the audio system to life. Let’s look at a few of the options we have for upgrading the power available in your audio system.

Line-level Converters

Factory-Audio-System-Amplification-2-300x185 Factory Audio System Amplification Possible at Tunes-N-Tint Perhaps the simplest interface solution to connect a new amplifier to your factory source unit is a device called a line-level converter. The concept is simple: Take the high voltage signal from your factory radio and lower it to a level that can be fed into a new amplifier. These devices are also called high-to-low converters or line output converters.

There are two types of line-level converters available: passive and active. A passive device is compact and often relatively inexpensive. These units contain variable resistors and transformers to let you reduce the voltage. The second option is an active device like the PAC Audio LOC Pro LP7 and AudioControl LC2 and LC7 devices. These devices require a powered connection, but provide better audio performance and include an output to turn on your new amp when the factory radio turns on.

Factory Amplifier Integration Solutions

Factory-Audio-System-Amplification-3-300x194 Factory Audio System Amplification Possible at Tunes-N-Tint If your car or truck includes a factory amplifier that has equalization, crossovers and signal delay built in, then we have two different options available. JL Audio offers two OEM Integration processors called the FiX-82 and FiX-86. These processors perform the same task as a line-level converter but can remove equalization, recombine signals that have been filtered for woofers, midrange and tweeters, and undo signal delay. The output of the devices resembles, as closely as possible, the signal you’d see coming out of an aftermarket head unit.

The second options for vehicles with complex built-in amplifiers are replacement modules like the PAC AmpPRO 4. For clients with 2013 and new Ford F-150 trucks with the Sony sound system and for many of the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and RAM vehicles, the AmPro 4 modules plug into your vehicle in place of the factory amp and provide all the same navigation prompt, door chime and audio signal routing as an aftermarket head unit.

Factory Audio System Amplification Integration

As with any audio system upgrade, the system design and equipment plays a signal significant role in the performance improvement, but of equal importance is how we install and configure that equipment. Our technicians work on mobile audio systems every day. They understand the wiring routing and connection techniques required to ensure your system will perform reliably for years. How we set the crossovers and sensitivity settings on your new amplifiers will ensure you can crank your tunes without fear of blowing up speakers or subwoofers.

Upgrade Your Sound at Tunes-N-Tint

When it comes time to upgrade your sound system, drop by Tunes-N-Tint and talk to a member of our team. We can help design an audio system that will keep the factory look and feel of your vehicle, and use our factory audio system amplification solutions to make it sound amazing! For more information, give us a call or send us an e-mail using our contact page.

Product Spotlight: Kenwood Excelon XR600-6DSP

August 4, 2017 By Staff

Kenwood-Excelon-XR600-6DSP-1 Product Spotlight: Kenwood Excelon XR600-6DSP Here at Tunes-N-Tint in Lakeland, we are always looking for cutting-edge products to meet the needs of our clients. Integrating into a premium factory system has been challenging in some cases, but the new Kenwood Excelon XR600-6DSP now takes adding an amplifier to your factory system to a whole new level. Used with the iDatalink Maestro Module, even the most complex factory system can get a power upgrade.

What will the Kenwood Excelon XR600-6DSP do for me?

Kenwood-Excelon-XR600-6DSP-4-300x200 Product Spotlight: Kenwood Excelon XR600-6DSP First of all, it will allow you to upgrade your smaller factory amplifier to a more robust 75 watts x 6 channels at 4 ohms – 100 watts x 6 at 2 ohms. It uses Class D amplifier technology for super-efficient power and a compact chassis. It gives you a very sophisticated digital signal processor (DSP) that works with your iPhone or Android via an app that gives you a wide variety of digital processing power.

Why is it Different from Other Amplifiers?

The major difference is how the Excelon XR600-6DSP connects to factory premium sound systems. Trying to upgrade some systems required “summing” the signals to get a full-range signal back, which could then be connected to a new amplifier. Frequently, this lead to the loss of some of your audio controls, such as the fader or tone controls, and some of the audible vehicle notifications like door chimes either didn’t work or were too loud. By using the iDatalink Maestro in conjunction with the XR600-6DSP, you get a cleaner signal and full functionality of your factory head unit features.

What is the iDatalink Maestro?

Kenwood-Excelon-XR600-6DSP-6-e1501642178833-300x84 Product Spotlight: Kenwood Excelon XR600-6DSP The iDatalink Maestro uses a vehicle-specific T-harness to connect seamlessly to the factory radio harness with a growing list of vehicle-specific adapters. It allows the factory system to continue to communicate with an upgraded amplifier when functions originally in the factory amplifier are removed. This option takes our ability to upgrade your factory system to a whole new level.

What is DSP?

Digital signal processing (DSP) takes the analog signal and converts it to a digital signal, the powerful processor in the XR600-6DSP can allow us to make some very complex adjustments to the signal via a powerful Bluetooth-connected iPhone or Android app. We can adjust crossover points and slopes for a system using separate components, make audio adjustments through the built-in 13 band EQ with three additional parametric adjustments, and make time alignment adjustments to dial in the sound.

As vehicles have become more sophisticated, the solutions to upgrade them have as well. Here at Tunes-N-Tint, we have products like the Kenwood Excelon XR600-6DSP that will allow us to give you the upgrades you want. Come in and talk to our sales and installation experts about your vehicle, or click here for more information.

Product Spotlight: JL Audio FIX-86 & TWK-88

March 5, 2017 By Staff

JL-Audio-FIX-86-1 Product Spotlight: JL Audio FIX-86 & TWK-88 Here at Tunes-N-Tint, we have some of the most sophisticated audio equipment available to give you the best sound quality on the market today. JL Audio is one of the best product lines on the market, and their FIX-86 and TWK-88 signal processors allow us to adjust and fine-tune systems at a level that couldn’t have been done a few years ago.

JL Audio FIX-86 for Your Factory Radio

JL-Audio-FIX-86-2-300x126 Product Spotlight: JL Audio FIX-86 & TWK-88 With the FIX-86, JL audio has given us the ability to add onto even the most complicated factory system. Many vehicles now come with factory radios that are integrated into the dash and other vehicle systems, making them difficult or impossible to replace. Many now use multiple amplifiers to control separate component speakers, adding to the complexity.

The JL Audio FIX-86 lets us take that factory signal and process it digitally, compensating for time delays and summing signals from separate amplifiers to arrive at a clean and corrected signal that we can build a new system around. We are able to get all of the signal and process it with the built-in 1/3 octave EQ while retaining all of the factory controls and fader, as well as have sub control.

Fine-tune Your Sound with the TWK-88

JL-Audio-FIX-86-3-300x185 Product Spotlight: JL Audio FIX-86 & TWK-88 With the JL Audio TWK-88, we can fine-tune the best systems and pull out all of the details. This is a digital signal processor that gives us 80 total bands of equalization that we can link to JL’s TuN software and a computer for the ultimate in fine-tuning. This unit offers sophisticated optical/digital inputs and outputs, as well as standard RCAs of up to eight channels.

Just like the FIX-86, this unit uses a 24-bit DSP processor. When the unit is connected to  a computer for set-up, we have full control over equalization, high- and low-pass crossovers, level control, and polarity.

Come on by Tunes-N-Tint and let our sales and installation staff show you the JL Audio FIX-86 and TWK-88, and what we can do to give you the finest sound quality possible in your vehicle – or click here for more information.
