Polaris Slingshot Radio for Lakeland Custom Builder

This Lakeland custom motorcycle builder enlisted the help of Tunes-N-Tint to customize a new Polaris SlingShot he just picked up. This vehicle was one of its first in the state. GPS navigation and Bluetooth connectivity were at the top of his wish list. He also wanted to be able to see the factory backup camera.

We had to modify the dash and create a new trim ring ito install the new radio. We used our in-house CNC laser to cut a new trim panel for the double-DIN radio out of layered plastic. We etched the customer’s business name into panel, along with our company name in the bottom right cover, for a personalized touch. Our technicians were able to integrate the factory camera with the new Kenwood eXcelon source unit.

Replacing the unsightly factory Polaris radio not only gave this client a huge technology increase, but also enhanced the styling of this aggressive-looking vehicle and made it more modern. We replaced the small, 4” screen on the factory Polaris SlingShot radio with a 7” Kenwood screen, nearly quadrupling the viewing area and allowing him to easily back that Slingshot in at car shows or anywhere else.

Yamaha Golf Cart Air Horn Install Adds Fun and Safety

Is your golf cart one of the coolest on the course – but is something still missing? This client loved his cart, but hated the wimpy horn that came with it. We previously installed a train horn package on his Ford F-150 and he asked if we could install something similar for his cart.

You don’t often see train horns on a golf cart.

We custom-fitted the train horn trumpets to below the factory panels, hidden from view, using stainless steel hardware and bolts. We mounted the tank and compressor below the rear seat bench and carefully routed all of our airlines and electricals with factory connections and components.

This client wanted to keep the factory horn and standard push button intact while making the train horns fun to use. This is why we mounted the train conductor-style pull cord to the roof line. This gives this little cart the sound and feel of the full-size train horn package we installed on the customer’s F-150, plus a little flare. Now this golfer never has to worry about his fellow players knowing he’s coming. No more wimpy horns on this 2012 Yamaha golf cart. And the best part is, you’d never even know it was there … unless you were in his way, of course.

Lakeland Client Gets Cool Power Wheels Audio System

Now and then, a truly unique project rolls into Tunes-N-Tint in Lakeland, Florida. In this case, the client wanted a real audio system installed in a BMW Power Wheels. If you are not familiar with Power Wheels, they are battery-operated ride-on toys for kids. We talked to the client about how he wanted the system to sound and subsequently designed something unique for this Power Wheels audio build.

Amp Rack

: One of our technicians works on the BMW wiring.

: The compact JL Audio amplifier was a perfect match for this build.

: Sitting atop the rear of the BMW is the amplifier and trim plate.

To power the system, we used a JL Audio HX280/4 amplifier. This four-channel amp is capable of producing 50 watts of power per channel into a 4 ohm load or can be bridged to produce 140 watts of power to a single driver. We made an amp rack that looks like the cover for a convertible top and finished it in heavy-duty truck bed undercoating.

Subwoofer Enclosure and Speakers

The enclosure was constructed out of a durable plastic.

Our team created a subwoofer enclosure for a single JL Audio 6W3 6.5-inch subwoofer. We constructed the compact bandpass enclosure out of white expanded PVC plastic. The enclosure is located at the very rear of the vehicle, essentially under the amp rack. We mounted it using stainless steel brackets and fasteners.

To provide clear and detailed high-frequency performance, we installed a set of JL Audio TR 650 6.5-inch coaxial speakers. We mounted the speakers on either side of the cockpit on reinforcement panels and applied bed liner material to the speaker panels to protect them from water damage.

Simple Signal Source

Since space was at a premium, we used a JL Audio MBT-CRX Bluetooth receiver to serve as the “head unit” for the system. All the client has to do is pair his, or his kid’s, smartphone to the JL receiver. He can control system volume by using the volume control on the phone or the controls on the face of the JL unit. Since the MBT-CRX includes the AVRCP Bluetooth profile, the driver can change tracks remotely as well.

All of the wiring was neatly run, and LED lighting accents the BMW.

We installed RBG LED strips under the vehicle and in the wheel wells to give the little BMW some extra bling. The headlights are now home to a set of high-output LEDs for a little more realism. We smoked the taillights of the BMW for that stormtrooper look as the final addition to the project.

Power Wheels Audio System Delivery

The Power Wheels audio project was a lot of fun for everyone here at Tunes-N-Tint. It gave our technicians a chance to do something a little different. The system sounds great and gets amazingly loud for the size of the vehicle. The client was thrilled.
